The World Haptics 2017 took place in Fürstenfeldbruck (Munich), Germany, from June 6 to June 9, 2017. Haptic devices enable human-machine interaction through the senses of force and touch. In recent years, the haptics research domain has grown exponentially, involving researchers spanning widely from psychophysics, via engineering, to design.

Haptic devices enable human-machine interaction through the senses of force and touch. Haptics technology refers to our ability of designing artificial systems able to sense and transmit the several pieces of touch information we get from feeling the real world, similarly to how video cameras and display screens register visual information and feed them to our eyes, respectively. In recent years, the haptics research domain has grown exponentially, involving researchers spanning widely from psychophysics, via engineering, to design. Successful applications of haptics technologies have been demonstrated in teleoperation, medical robotics, gaming, assistive robotics, and prosthetics.

IEEE World Haptics is the premier international conference addressing all aspects related to haptics, covering the basic scientific underpinnings, technological developments, algorithms, and applications. It is a central venue for reporting research results and demonstrating novel capabilities in the field of haptics.
