High Performance Computing Specialists at the University of Innsbruck Compute in the Cloud
Radu Prodan from the Institute of Computer Science, University of Innsbruck, and his team consisting of 10 researchers work on the project "Raincloud" together with the Institute of Meteorology and Geophysics, and the Institute of Astrophysics- and Astroparticle Physics. The project, funded by the Standortagentur Tirol, researches on possibilities to significantly reduce computing time of model calculations.
In this project foundational methods for estimating the potential of cloud infrastructures for scientific high performance applications are the main focus of research. Results can be directly applied by the Tyrolean Avalanche Service and the Tyrolean Hydrographical Service. Main goal is to increase the accuracy and reliability of precipitation forecasts.
