The Teaching Certificate for Computer Science and Computer Science Management is a diploma study. It is a combination of two subjects combining research-driven teaching, technical didactics and practical experience in schools in a meaningful manner. The University of Innsbruck educates teachers for general secondary institutions and for secondary institutions with a specific focus.
Goals
The Teaching Certificate for Computer Science and Computer Science Management will provide you with well-grounded knowledge about basic-principles, technologies and applications of Computer Science. Most emphasis is put on enabling you to teach students Computer Science in a simple, understandable, correct and motivating manner. In order to critically scrutinize and extend the curriculum in a meaningful manner, it is important to get a grasp of Computer Science and the scientific background. The social importance of Computer Science and Information Technology respectively the responsible handling thereof are also an important part of the curriculum. Students will also be provided with judicial background knowledge.
Alumni of this program are able to handle models for planning, execution and evaluation of Computer Science education. Students will receive education (among others) in the area of Databases, Software Development, Operating Systems and Networks. Another core-competency is the ability to evaluate software systems and to integrate them in classes in an appropriate manner. Not only the competence in regard to applications, but also the ability to understand the concepts behind them is a very important part of the program. Complex, interrelated matters shall be communicated in a simple and understandable manner.
The Teaching Certificate for Computer Science and Computer Science Management also enables you to work in the area of education for grown-ups.
Extent and Content of the Program
The Teaching Certificate for Computer Science and Computer Science Management comprises two subjects and is divided into two parts.
The first part comprises 52.5 ECTS credit points and lasts 4 semesters. The second part comprises 52.5 ECTS credit points per subject and lasts 5 semesters. Besides the specialist training and didactic training a hands-on experience in schools is part of the program.
