Prof. Dr. Günther Specht at the Adolf-Pichler-Platz-GymnasiumThe secondary school Adolf-Pichler-Platz invited Prof. Dr. Günther Specht, head of the research group DBIS (Databases and Information Systems) as part of the Social Networks Day. On 29. April 2010 Prof. Specht informed about the functioning and contents of Google, Twitter & Co. Whoever puts data online, inevitably leaves traces which can be saved, distributed, copied and used somewhere else. What happens to our data and which technological possibilities are used by the respective Internet companies? How safe are my mobile-phone data? Listeners should be senistised to the conscious and responsible use of data.
Fabian Laimer, scholar at the 7d, on the presentation:"Social networks like Facbook. Netlog and StudiVZ, as well as the search engine giant Google currently get a lot of attention by the media. Google incidentally collects private WLAN-Data as part of their highly debated "Street-View" projects. Facebook sells user profiles to advertising companies. StudiVZ falls victim to hackers. Nonetheless the Internet is highly popular - especially among youngsters - after all: the majority of more than 400 million Facebook users is below 25.
